# Viewing Materials

> Read, annotate, and engage with your course materials

A file opens in its own study space, with the original material beside Uflo's learning tools.
You can work through a document or recording, then explore its [study guides](/students/learning/using-study-guides) or [ask questions in Chat](/students/learning/chatting-with-materials).

## Open a Course File

    [Open your course](/students/getting-started/navigating-a-course), then choose the chapter and lesson you want to study.
    You can also select **Files** in the sidebar and choose your course from the selector.

  <Step title="Open the File">
    Select its file card.
    Uflo opens the viewer in another browser tab, so you can return to your course afterward.

## Work With Your Material

    Use the viewer's page and zoom controls to find the passage you want to study.
    **Annotate** lets you highlight text and add comments to document pages.

    Select **Draw** to sketch over the pages, then return to **Annotate** when you want to use the reader again.
    If a passage needs more explanation, [select it and ask Uflo about it](/students/learning/chatting-with-materials#explain-a-specific-part).

    <Tip>
      Uflo saves annotations automatically as you work.
      Before closing the file, check that your changes have saved.
      If changes are still unsaved, use the viewer's save control.
      If saving fails, choose **Retry** and wait for it to finish.

    Start playback and follow the **Transcript** when one is available.
    The current passage is highlighted as the recording plays.

    Use the timestamps to revisit a definition or explanation without replaying the whole recording.
    You can also select transcript text to [ask for an explanation in Chat](/students/learning/chatting-with-materials#explain-a-specific-part).

## Arrange Your Study Space

Drag the divider between the material and study tools to give either side more room.
Hover over the divider to reveal controls for collapsing or restoring a panel.
On smaller screens, use the **AI / File** switch to move between them.

  When reading section notes, [keep them synchronized with the material](/students/learning/using-study-guides#keep-notes-aligned-with-the-material).
  Uflo can follow your document page or recording position while **Notes** is open.

    Your browser may have blocked the new tab.
    Allow pop-ups for Uflo, then select the file again.
    If the material is missing from your course, check [content availability](/students/getting-started/navigating-a-course#understand-content-availability).

  <Accordion title="Can I download a copy?">
    Select the **Download** icon above the viewer when it is available.
    Download access depends on the file's settings.
    If a course file cannot be downloaded, ask your instructor for a copy.
