The Socratic Tutor works alongside you as you answer assessment questions. It uses questions and hints to help you think critically without giving away the answer. Each conversation is connected to the question you are working on. ## Work Through a Question Select the question you want to work on and ask the **Socratic Tutor** for help. If the tutor is not visible, your instructor has disabled tutoring for this assessment. The tutor has access to the question and your current response. You don't need to paste your work into the chat. Try asking “Can you help me with this?” or “I'm stuck. What should I try next?” Work through the question with the tutor until you feel ready to update your response. You can then ask follow-up questions about your changes. Enter your work in the [response editor](/students/assessments/answering-questions#question-response-types). ## Learn From Previous Feedback The tutor has access to your latest graded feedback and summaries of your earlier attempts. Your submitted response remains locked. The tutor can explain feedback but cannot change your score. To dispute a grade, [request a regrade](/students/assessments/requesting-regrades) when available, or contact your instructor. ## Adjust Your Experience Select the **sliders icon** beside the message field to choose your preferred language, writing level, and response length. Select the **+ button** beside the message field and choose **Add Image** to share a picture of your work. You can also use the **Whiteboard**, **Math Editor**, **Code Editor**, or **Molecule Editor** to share supporting work that isn't in your response. Select the **microphone** to dictate a message, then review the text before sending it. Use **Read Out Loud** beside a tutor reply to listen to it. Review your responses and send your completed work for grading.
